The Local Organising Committee is pleased to announce that a Coastal Engineering Short Course conducted by UNSW Sydney’s Water Research Laboratory will be held on the day prior to the 2025 Coasts & Ports Conference. It’s the ideal course for graduate or recently recruited coastal and maritime engineers.

This course will cover the following:

    • An overview of coastal engineering fundamentals
    • Current practice for coastal structures
    • Empirical, numerical and physical modelling
    • Practical case studies

Sessions will be run by industry practitioners and experts including staff from UNSW Sydney’s Water Research Laboratory and other organisations:

    • James Carley (UNSW WRL)
    • Associate Professor Ron Cox (UNSW WRL)
    • Dr Tom Shand (Tonkin + Taylor / University of Auckland)
    • Ian Coghlan (Course Coordinator, UNSW WRL)

Delegates will receive digital versions of the PowerPoint slides presented, supplementary readings, and compiled reference materials.

What previous delegates said about the short course:

“This course was enlightening! I was fascinated with each session. Great introduction for coastal engineering topics. Presentations were smooth and well-practised.”

“Presenters knew their stuff and were practitioners in this space.”

“I learned the requirements of coastal engineering design and a lot of real problems that engineers face in the design.”

Strategy to Reality: Implementing Decarbonisation and ESG Strategies

Join us for a half-day seminar hosted by PIANC dedicated to the practical implementation of decarbonisation and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategies in port and maritime operations and infrastructure.

    Key Topics

    • Economic and Regulatory Aspects: Navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by environmental regulations, reporting requirements, and market pressures.
    • Environmental and Economic Synergy: Explore the relationship between environmental performance and economic viability.
    • Real-Life Implementation Examples: Learn from case studies in our region showcasing best practices and lessons learned in decarbonisation and ESG implementation.

Attendees will gain practical insights into implementation strategies, stakeholder engagement, and responsibilities and opportunities for designers essential for advancing decarbonisation and ESG in port and maritime operations and infrastructure.

Speakers will include industry experts including members of international PIANC Commissions and Working Groups, government organisations, sustainability exports and Australian ports as outlined in the program included below.
